Hadleigh Castle overlooks the Thames estuary from a ridge to the south of the town of Hadleigh. Built in 1215 during the reign of Henry III The castle is now preserved by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building and scheduled monument. Hadleigh Country Park, which surrounds the castle, is one of the largest country parks in Essex. It takes its name from the nearby Castle Race.
